Fox Cities Employers
There is and initiative underway in the Fox Cities and we want you to be a part of it. Local businesses, schools and other organizations in the Fox Cities have joined forces to work toward obtaining a "Well City" designation.
What is a Well City?
Well City USA is a concept created in 1991 by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA), a national non-profit organization and leading resource for health and wellness promotion. Well City challenges local business communities to work together toward building healthier communities, starting in the workplace. Achieving a Well City designation requires that 20% of a community's working population must be emplyed by Well Workplace Award-winning companies/organizations. Currently 20% of the Fox Cities' workforce is approximately 32,000 and we have exceeded that number in our membership. We also need a minimum of twenty organizations to join the Well City movement, and we have over fifty!
Well City Fox Cities became a project for WELCOA officially in May 2012. Our target is to become a Well City in three years, with our members all moving to submit their applications and become accredited by May 2013. We are in the home stretch with operating plans and initiatives underway throughout all our member organizations.
What is the Cost to part of Well City?
Each participating member organization can implement a wellness program that suits their needs and their own budget. To be part of the Well City initiative, organizations need to become a member of WELCOA, which has an annual fee of $495.00. In addition, at least one person from each organization needs to attend a Well Workplace University training, with a $79.00 one-time fee. The membership and the University entitle you to a wealth of valuable resources at no additional charge. This also entitles you to attend Learning Circles and Mentoring Workshops at no additional charge, right here in the Fox Cities.
What does Well City do for my organization?
Well City provides business owners, wellness representatives and Human Resources personnel with training, resources and support to develop and deliver worksite wellness programs with the goal of meeting the Well Workplace criteria. Working toward a Well Workplace designation will enhance the quality of your wellness program and take it from activity driven to one that produces real outcomes. For organizations with locations in both the Fox Cities and Oshkosh, there is a "Well Oshkosh" project underway as well. By joining together we can improve the health of our entire community!
"Well City will have a lasting impact on the Fox Cities by bringing a renewed awareness of the importance of healthy employees and a healthier workforce. This initiative will also teach us to provide a consistent wellness message to all segments of our population. The messages that our children see and hear in school will be consistent with what we as parents hear and see at work. Over time, our focus on speaking a common language and modeling consistent wellness practices, will provide for positive improvements in our community."
