Well City Fox Cities

Employers

There’s an initiative underway in the Fox Cities that is gaining tremendous momentum, and we want you to be part of it.  A group of interested business leaders has joined local businesses, organizations, and schools together to work toward a “Well City” designation for the Fox Cities area.

What is Well City?

Well City USA is a concept created in 1991 by the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA), a national non-profit organization and leading resource for health and wellness promotion. Well City challenges local business communities to work together toward building healthier communities, starting in the workplace. Achieving Well City designation requires that 20% of a community's working population must be employed by Well Workplace Award-winning companies/organizations. Based on calculations obtained from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, 20% of our community’s working population is 29,376 people that must be employed by a designated Well Workplace.

What is the deadline?

Well City Fox Cities was accepted as a Well City project by WELCOA in May 2010. The process to achieve the Well City designation must be completed within three years, or in our case, by May 31, 2013.

What is the commitment for each participating organization?

When businesses and organizations sign on to participate, they commit to developing and implementing results driven, best practice employee wellness programs. This means following the Wellness Council’s “road map to wellness,” seven well-defined benchmarks that guide employers through the process of building a successful wellness program.

What is the cost to be a part of Well City?

Each participating organization must join the Wellness Council of Wisconsin. The annual membership fee is $495, which entitles you to a wealth of valuable resources at no additional charge. In addition, at least one member of each organization must attend a Well Workplace University training. This valuable training opportunity is offered several times throughout the year as a one-day onsite seminar for a fee or as a free series of webinars. Each employer decides how much to budget for its own employee wellness program.

What does Well City do for my organization?

Well City provides business owners, wellness representatives, and Human Resources personnel with training, resources, and support to develop and deliver worksite wellness programs with the goal of meeting the Well Workplace criteria. Working toward a Well Workplace designation will enhance the quality of your wellness program and take it from activity driven to one that produces real outcomes.

How will local organizations collaborate through this initiative?

Through Well City Fox Cities Learning Circles and training/mentoring opportunities, each participating organization can share ideas and learn from each others’ experiences and accomplishments. In addition, we are reaching out to local schools to make sure that students get the same wellness message at school that their families are getting at work. By joining together, we can improve the health of our entire community!

Quote

"Well City will have a lasting impact on the Fox Cities by bringing a renewed awareness of the importance of healthy employees and a healthier workforce. This initiative will also teach us to provide a consistent wellness message to all segments of our population. The messages that our children see and hear in school will be consistent with what we as parents hear and see at work. Over time, our focus on speaking a common language and modeling consistent wellness practices, will provide for positive improvements in our community."
